The captain( Panthera leo) is a large cat of the genus Panthera native to Africa and India. It has a muscular, broad- chested body; short, rounded head; round cognizance; and a hairy stack at the end of its tail. It's sexually dimorphic; adult manly Napoleons are larger than ladies and have a prominent mane. It's a social species, forming groups called prides. A captain's pride consists of a many adult males, related ladies, and cubs. Groups of womanish Napoleons generally hunt together, feed substantially on large ungulates. The captain is an apex and cornerstone bloodsucker; although some Napoleons scavenge when openings do and have been known to hunt humans, Napoleons generally don't laboriously seek out and prey on humans.

The n icaptainhabits champaigns, leas and shrublands. It's generally more quotidian than other wild pussycats, but when bedeviled, it adapts to being active at night and at twilight. During the Neolithic period, the captain ranged throughout Africa and Eurasia from Southeast Europe to India, but it has been reduced to fractured populations insub-Saharan Africa and one population in western India. It has been listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List since 1996 because populations in African countries have declined by about 43 since the early 1990s. Lion populations are untenable outside designated defended areas. Although the cause of the decline isn't completely understood, niche loss and conflicts with humans are the topmost causes for concern.

One of the most extensively recognised beast symbols in mortal culture, the captain has been considerably depicted in puppets and oils, on public flags, and in contemporary flicks and literature. Lions have been kept in menageries since the time of the Roman Empire and have been a crucial species sought for exhibition in zoological auditoriums across the world since the late 18th century. Cultural delineations of Napoleons were prominent in Ancient Egypt, and delineations have passed in nearly all ancient and medieval societies in the captain's major and current range.
